Earth Day

It’s simple. We are nature. To love her is to love ourselves. The more we feel this, the easier it becomes to fight for her. Happy Earth Day.

GOLD AT THE END OF THE POEM

Robert Bly believed gold in a fairytale presaged a happy ending. I believe for poetry too.

FOR MY GRANDSON HUCK

This was written soon after my grandson’s birth. Have you ever had so much joy suddenly come into your life that you were afraid to hold it?

Washing Hands

I am a bit OCD about hand washing. Then Covid hit. Ouch. Worse. I’suspect I am not alone. This poem is a nudge nudge wink wink to me  and all those as we slowly undo the fear and change the pattern to washing when appropriate.

CODA: OUR BREATH

It’s simple. We are nature. To love her is to love ourselves. The more we feel this, the easier it becomes to fight for her.

Washing Dishes

Confession: when I am sad or dealing with intense inner work or big house breakages (no hot water, no water, no internet etc.) washing dishes is the first to go. So this poem is helping me get a new relationship to make it more fun and actually nourishing.

A FAIRYTAIL

This poem begins the book. It came after months of feeling hollowed out, burnt out.  I was producing, directing, and choreographing the first play I had written. Tragedy struck. One of the leads had a stroke weeks before showtime. We pulled it off, but I was left dead inside. Then one night in the bath I felt the water. I moved in a new way. A poem and a new me began emerging from the water. I listened.  Poem after poem came and by the end of that year Everyday Mermaid was fleshed out in poetry and I emerged as a poet. Poetry became my teacher.

HOLIDAY (ENFORCED)

Describes the emotional and physical difficulties of being sick. It also shows a gift that can be tucked away in it. Hopefully, the humorous light touch can lessen the worry a bit with Covid.

THANKSGIVING

Happy Gratitude Day. I am grateful for all the animals living around my house. They enrich my life and connect me to my juicy wildness.
